Lesson on privacy and personal data protection as fundamental rights in the EU lectured by Alessandra Silveira at the Master Degree in Law & Informatics (Curricular Unit “Privacy and personal data protection”; Module “Digital citizenship from personal data protection examples: how to further promote CFREU effectiveness”)

On 17 February 2023, from 2 PM to 5 PM, it was lectured by Alessandra Silveira, academic coordinator of JM Centre of Excellence CitDig, a lesson to the students of the Master Degree in Law & Informatics (Curricular Unit “Privacy and personal data protection”; Module “Digital citizenship from personal data protection examples: how to further promote CFREU effectiveness”) on privacy and personal data protection as fundamental rights in the EU. It was explained to the students, in accordance with the CJEU case law, that the CFREU autonomizes the right to the protection of personal data (Article 8) from the right to the protection of privacy (Article 7), because not all personal data are by nature likely to cause harm to the data subject’s privacy, but they must also be protected as they allow the data subject to be identified.
