“Energy transition and citizen participation: energy communities in the EU” (#Juniors2Seniors with Cecília Bojarski Pires, José Gomes Mendes and Manuela Almeida)

This edition of #Juniors2Seniors is entitled “Energy transition and citizen participation: energy communities in the EU”, and is led by Cecília Bojarski Pires (PhD student at School of Law with a research grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology). This young researcher aims to test whether and to what extent the participation of citizens in decision-making processes in the energy sector (namely within the scope of the so-called “energy communities”) effectively contributes to the development of an active citizenship that allows them to determine the ways of life in their cities (from the perspective of a “right to the city”). Cecília Bojarski Pires has as guests José Gomes Mendes (Professor at Department of Civil Engineering at UMinho, where she works in the disciplinary area of regional and urban systems) and Manuela Almeida (Professor at Department of Civil Engineering at UMinho, where she works in the disciplinary area of constructions).
