In this edition of the Visit to the Academia, an interaction is promoted between the Master’s Degree Students of EU Law of UMinho and the Portuguese and Brazilian Ombudsmen (May 5, 2023). With the theme of the “European Declaration of Digital Rights and Principles” (December 2022), it is important to understand the role of the Ombudsman in this new digital ecosystem. In other words, it is important to assess which citizens’ complaints may be coming to the Ombudsman’s Office related to their participation in the digital public space; or with digital public services/e-government; or with phenomena of digital exclusion, etc., as well as confronting the current “state of the art” in Portugal with what is happening in other latitudes – namely, Brazil.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office for Citizen’s Rights (Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, Brazil) is represented by Carlos Alberto Vilhena (Federal Prosecutor for Citizen’s Rights), as well as Leyza Ferreira Domingues (International Advisor) and Allana Albuquerque Sousa Silva (Head of Communication). The Ombudsman’s Office in Portugal is represented by Ravi Pereira (Deputy Ombudsman), Cristina Sá Costa (Coordinator of the Law and International Relations Office) and Duarte Geraldes (Advisor).
